I was visiting my husband’s family for Christmas and spent one afternoon with his niece and nephew and by the end of that small outing I was so spent. Exhausted and disappointed at my own embarrassingly weak fitness, I thought to myself, “Wow, I need to get in shape if I’m going to be chasing after my future kids”. It was a big eye-opening moment for me and one of the first times I had really considered and thought about motherhood. That one thought fueled me and really motivated me to start running longer distances than 3-4 miles. I was lucky enough to also meet an amazing group of running friends who helped me run my first half marathon and full marathon within the same year in Seattle in 2024. Since moving to New York this year, I wanted to participate in as many races here as possible. I was disappointed when I didn’t get into the United Airlines NYC Half marathon from the lottery, but I explored the charity page for a second chance. As I was browsing through the different charities, Tell Every Amazing Lady® stood out to me. Grief is a funny thing. I lost my mother to an aggressive ovarian cancer years ago. I remember how confusing and frustrating her journey was even starting from trying to confirm her diagnosis all the way to her last days. It was and is so tough to reflect on that time, but now years later, I feel somewhat ready to step out of just grief and have a small part in helping other women and families avoid the same fate my mother faced. I hope to continue running as long as I’m able, and I’m so honored and excited to be able to run on behalf of this amazing organization to spread awareness to this elusive cancer.
